Jan Levine: Re-tooling on the fly, how that's defined will determine Rangers' direction
GM Jeff Gorton to be the one that provides that definition

Rangers have been retooling on the fly for the past couple of seasons now. They've been getting younger any opportunity they get, while bringing in stop gap vets that can be traded for assets at the deadline or plug a hole in the lineup.

I skimmed this and will read more later, but I have to believe the Rangers bring in somebody on a one year deal. They'll need to save some cap space for next season's re-ups but they could overpay Marleau for one year (assuming no one else gives him 3 years).

Might want to check out who's in last year of contract. I know the Sedins are. Just sayin.

I think Gagner would actually be a pretty good value for NYR. He is at his best on the PP and can certainly hold his own at 5v5

I was going to use the term" apepoop" in the header, but thought that it would be too salacious and viewed as a click bait blog.

lots to chew on in this blog Jan, but, I personally believe adding Ruff to the staff is specifically to light a fire under AV's ass

AV would never say it publically, but I believe he probably isn't happy about it

I debated about splitting it up into multiple blogs. I may re-run pieces of it during the week. But to all, if better as multiple blogs, please let me know.

Ruff helps the D, but agree, he is also being brought in to kick AV in the butt and put him on some form of notice.

Ruff's a guy with a Jack Adams trophy, 11 playoff series wins, a final

overall resume not too different from AV's

This is interesting because it sounds like what some have said about the Flyers' recent hiring of Kris Knoblauch (considered an up-and-coming coach) as an assistant coach... as a potential shot across Hakstol's bow.

Good blog Jan.

As for the rebuilding on the fly, pretty much what RD said.

Getting younger while still staying competitive. Thats all it means to me and is a pretty simple concept.

Or in the case of the Flyers...getting younger while pretending to be competitive

Between Vecchione and Patrick, the flyers have had a very bad offseason...from a Rangers fans perspective

Don't care about Vecchione. With the Forwards the flyers have it will be tough for him to make an impact. They were gifted Patrick in the lotto. Nothing you can do. They just need Sanhiem to pan and they'll be decent in a hurry.

cringe at the thought of bringing back boyle, moore or any other has been. boyle didnt want to stay here, left for the money, screw him. moore is not what we need either. thornton is too old and too many years, we don't need another contract for an aging player over 35...ie: dan boyle. please

Considering how man shots you've taken at Jan, I loathe myself for agreeing with you on Thornton. Boyle is the ideal 4c.
